      <image:title>oldvideo - VARIATIONS - preliminary movements in a work of algorithmic cinema</image:title>
<image:caption>Video source: nine 15-minute pre-shows for lectures on technology and culture, assembled from public domain materials or copyrighted materials used under fair-use exemption. Audio source: Bach's Goldberg Variations, as performed by Glenn Gould (1981 version). Process: Each variation's BPM was converted into an average shot length (in seconds). A program (written in Python) algorithmically edited the source footage thirty-one times, operating on rules derived from each variation. The resulting work is a product of three human sign-systems: the footage, informed by the curriculum of a course and the individual editors of the preshows; Goldberg Variations, doubly informed by Bach's formal structures and Gould's "constant rhythmic reference"; the algorithm, written by me, informed by algebra and early Soviet montage theory.</image:caption>

      <image:title>about - Sean Michael Landers</image:title>
<image:caption>PhD candidate @ UTD / ATEC, 2017-2018 #HASTAC Scholar. The New School (MA 2016), Emerson College (BA 2004). Sean Michael Landers exhumes dead media, disinters forgotten futures, and otherwise indulges in macabre investigations of the technological imagination. The wild pursuit of a concept that comes to me in a dream gives rise to a complex wrangling with technology, which only later yields to theoretical investigation as to what I was after the entire time. Yes, that is a picture of me eating breakfast taken through an analog toast filter, thank you for your interest. (Photo by Jennifer Cotton.) CV/ Resume.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Projects - Spring 2018 - LOOKING BACKWARDS: A History of Bellamy Bradley Games</image:title>
<image:caption>Looking Backward: A History of Edward Bellamy Games is a work of critical design that leverages the science fiction trope of alternate realities. This exhibit challenges the idea that ours is the best of possible worlds, and the only way things could have turned out. It embraces the idea, necessary for social change, that another world is possible – by presenting us with snapshots and shadows from a reality adjacent to but distinctly different from our own. Giving us the foundation of another world’s values creates a critical gap for us to begin to interrogate the values of our own systems of play and examine the ways they reinforce the status quo.</image:caption>
