LOOKING BACKWARDS:
A History of Bellamy Bradley Games

Looking Backward: A History of Edward Bellamy Games is a work of critical design that leverages the science fiction trope of alternate realities.

This exhibit challenges the idea that ours is the best of possible worlds, and the only way things could have turned out. It embraces the idea, necessary for social change, that another world is possible – by presenting us with snapshots and shadows from a reality adjacent to but distinctly different from our own. Giving us the foundation of another world’s values creates a critical gap for us to begin to interrogate the values of our own systems of play and examine the ways they reinforce the status quo.
